Šibenik is one of the oldest native Croatian cities on the Adriatic coast and serves as the cultural, educational, administrative, and economic center of Šibenik-Knin County.
Cathedral of St. James is the most significant architectural achievement of the 15th and 16th centuries in Croatia. Thanks to its outstanding universal value, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000. In 2017, St. Nicholas Fortress was also added to the same prestigious list.
Krka National Park stretches along the Krka River, from the medieval fortresses of Trošenj Fortress and Nečven Fortress to the Šibenik Bridge on the Adriatic Highway. The park was officially designated as a national park on January 24, 1985.
